Groundhog Day

Princess Theatre, Melbourne

Presented by Marriner Group
Direct from its record-breaking return season at London's Old Vic, Groundhog Day The Musical will play exclusively at Melbourne's Princess Theatre

Ended on Wednesday, 24 January 2024

Book by Danny Rubin

The Olivier award-winning Groundhog Day the Musical (Best New Musical, Best Actor) will make its Australian Premiere at the Princess Theatre in January, for an exclusive Melbourne only season!

Phil Connors, a cynical Pittsburgh TV weatherman is sent to cover the annual Groundhog Day event in the small town of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.
Caught in a time loop, he's forced to relive the same day again and again and again. As Phil recognises that an infinite loop offers infinite possibilities, is there a lesson being learned and will he ever figure out the secret to break the cycle?

From the creatives behind Matilda the Musical and The Old Vic's A Christmas Carol, developed and directed by Matthew Warchus, with a book by Danny Rubin and music and lyrics by Tim Minchin, this brilliant new production is based on the classic movie and is a parable of love, hope and transformation.

Marriner Group

Melbourne's iconic Princess Theatre is regarded by many as Melbourne's most spectacular landmark.
Dating back as far as 1854, the theatre was purchased by Marriner Theatres in 1986 and plans were put in place for its total refurbishment and to ensure its future viability as a live theatre venue.

The Princess Theatre reopened in 1989 with the musical ‘Les Miserables' followed by ‘The Phantom of the Opera' which ran for over two and a half years and established a new record for the longest-running show ever staged in Victoria.
