As musicians and lovers of music, we are in the business of listening.
The Uluru Statement of the Heart is an invitation to all Australians to listen to our First Nations people, and in doing so, drive meaningful change and contribute to a fairer and brighter future for Indigenous Australians.
We at the Australian Chamber Orchestra are proud to support an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice enshrined in the Constitution as an important first step in that process. It is an opportunity for our nation to come together in a celebration of listening and inclusivity, as we embrace a culture rich in storytelling, music-making and expression that has existed in this country for over sixty thousand years.
We acknowledge there is a wide spectrum of views on the Referendum and that the public discourse and media coverage is not without impact. Our thoughts and support are with all First Nations people and their communities at this time.
